Temporary Employee Perks

ON-CAMPUS ACCESS

Temporary employees are eligible to join the gym for $25/month. You will be asked to provide a letter of employment on official NC State letterhead with employment dates from your department. For more information, visit the Wellness and Recreation’s website.

Temporary employees are eligible to utilize some of the NCSU Libraries resources. You can review a list of privileges available to temporary employees through the NC State Libraries.

All temporary employees should receive an ID card during their onboarding appointment. If you would like to use your card to make purchases on campus, you can set up the All Campus feature and load money on to the card. If you still have money on the card at the end of your assignment, you can request a refund and a check will be issued (the balance must be greater than $15). For more information, click here.

Temporary employees are eligible to get into any non-revenue generating sporting event for free. To see a list of sports and schedules visit www.gopack.com.

Temporary employees are eligible to park on campus with daily or monthly rates.

HEALTH OPTIONS

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires that anyone working 30 or more hours per week averaged over a 3 month time period must be offered employer-provided health insurance. The Benefits Office will monitor eligibility and reach out with additional information.

Campus Smiles offers dental services to NC State students, faculty, staff, campus partners and temporary employees at two state-of-the-art offices on campus. An NC State email address and ID card are required to make an appointment. Campus Smiles also offers savings plans for employees who do not have dental insurance. Find out more, to include a full list of services and rates.

BANKING

As an employee of NC State University, you and your immediate family are eligible to become member-owners of State Employees’ Credit Union! A $25 share account (your membership account), allows you to take advantage of SECU’s excellent rates and services. Visit www.ncsecu.org for more information.

Retiree Perks, Privileges, Continued Work

Athletics: Please contact the Athletics Ticket Office for ticket options available only to retired NC State faculty and staff at 919-865-1510.

Carmichael Complex Gym Membership: NC State Wellness and Recreation empowers the Wolfpack community to thrive. Amenities and Membership.

Cultural Events: Arts NC State is the collective organization for all six of NC State University’s performing and visual arts programs and five supporting units. Ticket Central is the centralized box office for the visual and performing arts programs.

Email: Retirees may retain their NC State email account (including Google Workspace) at the discretion of their department management. A department HR representative will submit a no-pay action in the HR System to maintain access. Instructions for submitting Retiree and Guest Accounts.

Retirees that keep their NC State email account (including Google Workspace):

  • Are required to take OIT’s Data Security Training annually
  • Are required to acknowledge the Information Security & Privacy Acknowledgement form via the MyPack Portal annually
  • Must review and renew the account access on an annual basis with their department
  • Should remember that use of your NC State account after retirement means it remains subject to discovery and/or open records requests

Key Haven Campground: Key Haven is a large wooded site on a peninsula at Kerr Lake.  It is available for camping, picnicking, boating,  and enjoying nature.

Library Privileges: To check out materials you must have an official photo ID.

Parking:   Retired employees have two options for parking, either utilizing paylots/payspaces or purchasing an annual permit.

What do I do to retain my annual parking permit after retirement? Submit a Permit Authorization Form for Retired Employees signed by the Department Head or representative. Form authorizes the purchase of an “R” permit for an annual fee.  Retirees may renew online via credit card with access code from renewal assignment letter.

Retired employees who receive compensation from the University are not eligible for an “R” permit.

Wolf Alerts: If you no longer wish to be notified via text of Wolf Alerts you will want to remove your personal cell phone number from the personal information within Employee Self Service.

Wolfpack One Card: As a retiree, you may retain your current NC State ID.

WolfPerks: The WolfPerks Program is designed to save NC State University Faculty & Staff money on products and services both locally and nationally. Take a moment to browse through the many offers available to you and your family throughout the WolfPerks program.

TSERS Retirees: The State Retirement System requires that retirees do not work in any capacity (direct or indirect, including independent contractors) for the same branch of the retirement system from which they retired for six months after retirement. Violation of this rule will result in the cancellation of retiree benefits.

An exception is made for volunteering in “bona-fide volunteer” positions. Note that applicable positions must be deemed as such with the State. No such positions exist at NC State University.

Rehired retirees are subject to earnings and work hour restrictions in order to maintain retiree benefits. For questions or clarification, review the State Retirement System information or your department-assigned Benefits Consultant.

ORP Retirees:  A one-month break is suggested before returning to work in any capacity with a State of NC agency.

University Temporary Services: Being retired is not an end, but a starting point for new opportunities. Begin a new adventure where it all started with University Temporary Services. If you are interested in temporary employment at NC State through University Temporary Services, review the current vacancies and apply for the positions that best match your professional experience. Emeritus Status (Faculty and Senior Administrators): Any tenured full-time faculty member, SAAO, EPS, who has served for ten or more years State University is eligible to apply for emeritus status. Status is granted to retiring full-time faculty and administrators in recognition of dedicated service. Applications for Emeritus are submitted through the College/Division

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute: The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at NC State provides non-credit short courses, study trips, and special events for adults aged 50. Retirees are entitled to one year free membership in OLLI.

NC Retired Government Employees Association (NCRGEA): The primary mission of the North Carolina Retired Governmental Employees’ Association is to advocate for the collective interests of its members.

Association of Retired Faculty: The Association of Retired Faculty (ARF) consists of retired faculty and EPA professional staff from North Carolina State University. The organization was founded in 1983 to share common interests and to maintain an organized Association with the University.
