Letter from the Chancellor
Our Work – Transformation
Welcome to North Carolina State University:
Throughout the university’s rich history, stretching back more than 125 years, NC State has always been at the forefront of change. We are an institution that has always leaned forward, pushing ourselves to confront one more challenge, create one more innovation, solve one more problem.
This forward movement has created an inspiring sense of momentum at NC State. In our labs and classrooms I see faculty and students collaborating across disciplines like never before. Professors of engineering team up with veterinary surgeons to create the next generation of artificial limbs. Researchers in biology, chemistry and advanced analytics work with faculty and graduate students in management to bring the latest breakthroughs to market. Our industry partnerships — in fields ranging from textiles to software to biotechnology — help us transform research discoveries into economic power.
It’s an exciting time to part of this creative community and I’m pleased to welcome you to the Wolfpack family.
A Best Value
A land-grant university founded in 1887, NC State is the flagship science, engineering and technology institution within the University of North Carolina system, and one of the nation’s most active research universities.
NC State has the largest student body of any university in the system as well as the largest number of enrollment applications from North Carolina students. We are renowned for our academic excellence and for the quality of our faculty. But we also pride ourselves on ensuring that student debt is among the lowest in the nation, making NC State one of the best values in higher education.
We are committed to excellence, diversity and high ethical standards, as well as efficiency and effectiveness in building the model for the university of the future.
Our Core Values
As a new member of the Wolfpack family, you have joined a team of 8,000 dedicated faculty and staff members who bring the NC State experience to life for our 34,000 students. In your new role, you will help us deliver on the promise of our core values:
- Integrity in the pursuit, creation, application and dissemination of knowledge
- Freedom of thought and expression
- Respect for cultural and intellectual diversity
- Responsibility for individual actions and service to society
- Stewardship in sustaining economic and natural resources
- Excellence in all endeavors
Here you will find a vibrant campus that is home to people from all over the world. I hope you will actively seek ways to participate in and enjoy the richness of our community and make your own contributions to our university culture.
Best wishes,
Randy Woodson
